Hi everyone! My name is Lucy Kimball and I’m a 17 year old from Michigan. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to travel with World Race’s Gap Year program to Albania and Italy for September, October & November of this year! During this trip we will be working alongside the ministry partners they have there. We will be able to learn from (and hopefully encourage!) the church planters, work with the elderly and kids, serve at a coffee shop ministry, and much more. These first few weeks of preparation have brought much excitement as well as nerves as the realization sets in that this will be the longest I’ve ever been separated from my family.
As part of my preparation for the trip, I’ve started thinking through my “why” for going. It feels like I’m throwing myself into a place where I will be pushed out of my comfort zone, and into a situation that brings me a lot of fear. However, I always come back to remembering that the only way to grow is to try new things and work through the fear that may come with it. I’m very aware that I’ll experience discomfort in the times when I’m homesick, or embarrassed by not always having the answers to questions, but I’m realizing that this discomfort is a good thing. I’ve been blessed with this trip which is a safe space to mess up, to mature, and to experience all of it with a strong community of Christ followers around me. God is showing me that fear and joy can mutually exist, and that’s what I’ve been holding onto as I count down the days until we leave!
In order to go on this trip, I need to raise $7,900 by August 30th. The money will be used to pay for my housing, flights, food, and training camp in Albania. Whether that’s a financial donation or prayers for me and my team, I would really appreciate any support that you can give! I’m so thrilled to be taking this step in my life and I can’t wait to share how God works in and through me over the next months!
